Interview - Volume 2

Vedanshi Wadhwa

I am Vedanshi, an editor of GV’s Hapazagine. I am honored and excited to interview my grandfather about his profession of serving the nation. Here is an extract of the interview for your perusal.

Daadu, can you please introduce yourself for our audience?

My name is Subhash Chander Wadhwa, and I served the nation for 35 years. I have had the privilege to serve the nation through the Defense force followed by the paramilitary force, mainly in BSF and then in CISF. I travelled many places due to my job and have had a fulfilling job experience throughout. I retired as a Commandant from CISF. At present I live with my elder son in Bangalore and I am enjoying my retirement age with my kids and grandchildren.

When did you join the Border Security Force and why?

Firstly, I joined the Border Security Force (B.S.F.) on 14 Jan 1972 as a Sub Inspector.

I had always seen my elder brother,

Sh. Ram Krishan Wadhwa as an inspiration. He was the binding and loving force of our family. He served the nation through BSF and sacrificed his life during the Indo-Pak 1971 war. After my elder brother who sacrificed his life for the nation, I had the aspiration to join BSF and fortunately BSF Deputy General called me to join BSF as a Sub Inspector.

How was your experience?

My BSF experience was really great and I served BSF for almost 7 years and then I moved on to join the Central Industrial Security Force (C.I.S.F) in 1979.

When did you get a police  medal and what did you do that made you win the medal?

For the first time in 2002, CISF was  deployed to take care of Security in all Indian airports.

Though the airport security duty was not an easy task and we as an organization did not have the experience, we put together the plan in place and it was well appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience overseeing the security at Delhi Airport. After seeing my hard work CISF honoured me with the President Police Medal and the facilitation happened in Chennai.

How many places were you posted?

After every 3 years I used to get posted to a new location.

From 1979 to 2009, I got posted at various locations such as Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, Bhubaneshwar in Orissa, LakwaSivasagar in Assam, Jalandhar in Punjab, Haldia port in West Bengal and Vashi in Maharashtra.

When did you retire?

I retired on 30 November 2009 and had a very satisfying experience with CISF.
