Interview - Volume 3

Vigyan Chakrabarti

Interview with Jayshree dadi

What job did you do and why did you choose it?

I had already taught my own children and I shifted to kindergarten teaching because I loved it

What kind of relation did you have with your students and how did you deal with difficulty with concepts and exams?

I used to teach LKG and since the children were just leaving the security of there parents I had to make them feel comfortable. Just because they were LKG children I could not take them lightly and that's why I used to go completely prepared about what concepts I was going to teach and what activities I wanted to conduct. Since they were small children it was difficult to get there attention therefore I had to dramatize the concepts as much as possible. We had been given a special training for that.

Did you have any idea about what job you were going to do and did you have any childish thoughts about what job you were going to do?

I was a housewife and I took up teaching because my children had grown up so I could take up a job.

What do you think is important if you want to be a teacher and what do you think are the different aspects of being a good teacher?

The teacher is a role model for the students and also needs a lot of patience with the students. The teacher should also be aware of the needs of the students. The teacher should also teach the students moral values like discipline, honesty, compassion etc through activities by which the students will automatically learn those values.

Did you have any difficulty in raising your children while also doing your job?

No, because my kids grandparents were there and they were also independent.

Would you have changed your approach of teaching if you would have been teaching the lockdown students?

Moral values of students are neglected because of not meeting there friends. These values cannot be learned only by reading books. These values can be learned by experience through activities.
